TLC was born in 2002 of prayerful concern for the Church of Haiti and her young adults who are spiritually, academically, and culturally committed though economically disadvantaged. Recognizing the need for advanced training of the nation's future leaders, TLC Foundation provides scholarship opportunity for a number of students to further their education at Haitian and American universities. Following careful evaluation by local and national leaders of the ASEBACH churches, selected candidates are chosen on the basis of their Christian leadership ability, their educational achievements, and their commitment to serving their churches, communities, and nation.
The TCL scholarship program is unusual in that it involves a high level of accountability by the students and also by those who recommend them. Candidates are recommended by their local church leaders who know them best. As students, they are mentored. Their academic and social progress is monitored throughout the academic year. Every summer, each student must return to Haiti and serve an internship in the programs of his or her church or community. While success cannot be guaranteed and can only be measured over time, this accountability process has yielded unuusally positive results by helping to integrate students' initial dreams, their education, the need, and their calling.
Mission Statement
TLC seeks to provide opportunities for leadership training, professional skills development, and higher education for Haiti’s Christian youth, through economical and logistical support, to facilitate young leaders to build up their local churches and communities, advancing the spiritual and economic development of the Haitian people.
Goals
TLC aims to see the church of Haiti become more defined and stronger in Christ-centered issues. Through qualified Christian leadership, the church of Haiti will influence the ethical direction of politics and the equitable economic development of the nation.
Strategy
TLC will seek opportunities for young Haitian Christians to be trained academically, to be Biblically founded, and to experience a high moral and cultural environment in Christian universities in order for them to return to Haiti to become leaders in ecclesiastical and secular aspects of national development.
